Day Programs

- Day Programs
Our Day Programs offer an environmental
experience for the lower elementary grades(K-4)
as well as 5th and 6th graders unable to attend our residential
program. Most Day Programs are two hours in length and are
available September through December.

HIKE
Main Concept: Living and non-living
components in the environment can be observed, described,
and classified using the senses. Students identify different
groups of plants and animals. They visit the pond habitat,
the garden, the wildlife museum, the science lab, the
adaptations lab and hike the creek trail.

BLUE MARBLE
Main Concept: An ecosystem is
made up of many habitats in which groups of living things
can be observed. Students identify and compare various
habitats, describe food chains and identify and compare
living and non-living components of an ecosystem. They
visit the pond, wildlife museum, science lab, habitat
room, raptor center, and hike along the creek.

CHANGING PLANET
Main Concept: Living and non-living
components in the environment go through cycles and
patterns of change. Students learn about cycles within
the plant and animal kingdoms and the physical world.
They will describe the water cycle and identify seasons.
They visit the pond, garden, wildlife museum, science
lab, insect room and hike along the creek.

CHUMASH LIFE
Main Concept: All civilizations
have similarities that effect their surrounding environment.
Through discussion, observation and participation in
representative Chumash activities, the student will
gain awareness and appreciation for the native peoples
use of plants, animals, and other natural resources.

Main Concept: The Greek and Native Americans used the
stars to teach their mythology. Students will be introduced
to the beauty of the universe through the eyes of the
Greeks and Native Americans and will learn various myths
and legends and identify constellations.

Residential Program
Rancho El Chorro offers five day, four
day, and three day residential programs for 5th and 6th grade
students. Eleven science themes present students with a broad
and in-depth look at the natural world:
