Adaptations and characteristics of local insects, observation and collection of insects in various habitats, and the role insects play in the environment.

Starlab

(Astronomy)


Observe the night sky and understand why it changes. Identify constellations, describe the solar system and various star characteristics.

Hill

(Communities)


Community concept, energy flow through an ecosystem. Interaction, competition and adaptations of plants within four distinct communities. Man's dependence upon and use of plants.


Estuary Studies


Identify three distinct areas that make up an estuary. Locate mudflat and saltmarsh habitats, and observe, identify, and compare species living in and around them. Discuss ways to help preserve an estuary.

Rock Star

(Geologic Change)


Man's dependence upon the earth, the earth is constantly changing, tectonic plate theory, how the weathering process produces soil, rock types and their characteristics, local land forms and geological history of the area.

Web of Life

(Interdependence)


Habitats and characteristics of vertebrates, adaptations of local animals, learning to recognize evidence of wildlife on a trail, role of carnivores, omnivores and herbivores in the food chain.

Ocean Adventure


(Marine Studies)


Habitat and characteristics of intertidal invertebrates, fishes, marine mammals and birds; geological history of the coastline. Man's dependence upon marine ecosystem.

 

Dig

(Soil Studies)


Composition of soil types, composting techniques, use of native plants, erosion control.

World of Water


(Freshwater Ecology)


Ecosystem concept, measuring and investigating physical and biological factors at the pond, water cycle, effects of pollution, water conservation and the use of weather instruments to collect data.
